Gig Log: Hilo High School Sr. Prom 2013
04/21/13 09:38 PM
Last weekend we get a chance to be a part of the Hilo High School Senior Prom 2013. It’s a very rewarding feeling to go back to my Alma Mater and give them something we didn’t have when I was going to high school…the lighting and atmosphere. I remember at my senior prom at Hapuna Beach Hotel there was just a DJ and some simple effect lights. Now with the new LED technology we are able to create something bigger and grand. Their theme for the night was Hollywood red carpet. There was a backdrop near the entrance. We decided to add a white wash of light on there to have that bright Hollywood red carpet feel and we did some red uplighting on the sides of the back drop.
We then washed the room with their theme color of red with hints of white.
It turned out to be a great event. It was part of Eclipse Effect Entertainment revamping our prom/school dance services. We are now offering bigger lighting packages for school dances and also working closer with the schools from the beginning of the school year to make prom a big thing. Besides it should be because it’s probably one of the biggest events besides graduation for most high schoolers.
An extended prom/school dance section on this website is coming soon. Be on the look out for it.
Gig Log: Ranch Wedding in Kohala

It’s always a nice change to have a wedding gig outdoors. You get the nice fresh air, cool breeze, and an overall different feel then having a wedding indoors. Recently we were able to be a part of George and Mai Young’s wedding at Puakea Ranch in Kohala. This venue provided a great rustic feel that also provides lots of space for guests. We teamed up with Vintage & Lace who did a great job with the decor and planning details of this event. They kept the theme of the wedding rustic. Lighting for a rustic wedding consists of ambers or white. An amber color is the natural light halogen light bulb color. The trick for this event was to not use too much lighting which would clash with the rustic feel and have the event look lean too much on the modern side. So we did washes of white on the bride and groom for the first dance and also amber on the hula performer during the reception. One idea I instantly thought of when I did my site inspection was to light up the huge tree near the entrance of the reception area. I wanted to do this so guests could tell where the reception was being held from their cars which was quite a distance away down a dirt driveway. I wanted them to be able to just follow the lighted tree to the reception. This tree design turned out great and allowed couples to run off for a bit and take pictures or hang out under the tree.
The exit was an amazing sight with the bride and groom running under the sparklers. That was a great idea by Vintage & Lace. Congrats and thank you to George & Mai!
