Just Like On Pinterest, A Water's Edge Wedding
The Hilton Water’s Edge Ballroom is one of those venue where you feel like you are in those really elegant venues you see on Pinterest. Not only do you have that view of the man made bay behind you, but you also have the one of a kind architecture as the central point of the room with the spiral staircase. It’s always a treat to work in this ballroom. The elegance of the room goes hand in hand with the lighting design. Both compliment each other well.
A few weeks ago it was the wedding of Bo & Tara in the Hilton Waikoloa Water’s Edge Ballroom. It was a tough set up not because of the difficulty of the lighting design, but the amount of time we to set up. It was going to take 4 hours to set up this lighting design we had in mind. The only problem was we had only 1 1/2 to make this happen with a brand new member to our set up crew. How were we going to pull this off?
It was an intense set up. We worked with Pele’s Wedding & Events to create lighting design of fall colors. The colors of fall were represented with amber and orange. Ambers work well in any room to give a room a high end feel.
We also did an elegant pattern on the dance floor. This created a focal point for the night.
The new set up team worked very well together and we did pull off the set up in time. I was simply amazed and relieved. The bride and groom were also two very laid back people that knew how to have a good time. This just brought the night together very well. It was also great working with Pele’s Wedding & Events again. Their planning and decor services are some of the best on this island in terms of quality. It is always a pleasure to work with them and I can highly recommend them.
The Hilton Waikoloa Water’s Edge Ballroom is always a good choice for a wedding venue. Its elegance and feel is one of a kind to this location. Working in a Part of History
With Red & White night in Downtown Hilo happening tonight, I thought it would be a great time to look back at the Black & White night event we got to be a part of last month. Black & White Night is a night where Downtown Hilo transforms. Many of the shops are open till late, there is live entertainment everywhere, and families and friends can walk safety and enjoy what Downtown Hilo has to offer. It’s a bustling night filled with fun. So when we were contacted to be a part of this night we definitely said, “Yes!”
The event was a Masquerade After Party at the Palace Theater. A place built in 1925 that created a venue that was ahead of its time, which allowed people watch various plays and concerts. So it was exciting to be able to be able to work in this historic building. We were to provide the DJ and lighting for this event. We also knew that it would be a huge undertaking because of how huge the Palace Theater is.
For the lighting set up we did blue lighting on ceiling with a stars design to give the palace a night time feel. We also did red uplighting around the room. Dark colors like red are great colors to use to have the lighting stand out on Palace’s darker colored walls . Here’s a picture of the set up we did.
Here’s another picture during the event. This is when the Samba dancers performed an exhibition routine. Thanks to the Downtown Improvement Association for the picture.
Here’s a look at the back of the palace during the dancing part of the night.
The night started off with an orchestra playing classical music on stage. Then at 9:00 pm drinks and pupus were served in the lobby as the Palace turned into a classy after party with dancing. It was great working with the Downtown Improvement Association, The Palace Theater, The Wave 92.FM, and Pepe Romero of CJ Sounds on this event. Looking forward to teaming up with these companies to hold more great events in the future. You can keep up to date on the latest events happening in Downtown Hilo by visiting www.downtownhilo.com. Check out the history of the Palace Theater as well as upcoming events they will be having at www.hilopalace.com. Listen to The Wave 92 FM on Hawaii Island and check them out online at www.hawaiiswave.com.
