Night On The Nile Event
11/20/12 02:35 AM
This past Saturday we had the privilege of doing sound and lighting services for the Night of the Nile belly dancing exhibition that took place at the Naniloa Crown Room. It was a very interesting gig for me personally because I always had the thought that belly dancing was a event where a lady comes into a room for a birthday party and dances. This event changed my whole thinking about belly dancing. This was an exhibition where there were 19 performance with girls from Hilo, Waimea, Puna, and Kona. The intensity and focus of these girls on stage were amazing. It was a friendly exhibition, but you could tell each one of these girls wanted to do their best or maybe even have the best performance of the night. It was also very artful with music from the traditional Middle Eastern music, to heavy metal, dub step, pop, and hip hop. That part surprised me the most. Artful quality dances to music of all genre. Here are some pictures of the night.
This was an Egyptian themed night so we decided to use an amber color with heavy shadowing to mimic the Egyptian tomb effect. The picture on the bottom left is a good example of that. It’s amber lighting on the King Tut and pyramid cakes that were made by Custom Crazy Cakes. We also used blue to give it a night time feel. The backdrop of the stage and spotlight on the dancers changed colors with each of the 19 performances to match the choreography and feel of each dance number. This was a very technical event, but also a very fun one.
